Booking Hotels ahead on Roadtrips

Hello!

My boyfriend and I are planning to road trip around Germany in early October. We want to have freedom in where we go in the moment, so is it necessary to book hotels ahead of time? Or should there be good availability in most cities? If not, which cities do you recommend having a more solid plan for? We have already booked ahead for Munich during this time.

Definitely book your first night and your last night. Since your flights are fixed, you know where you will be arriving and departing, and that won't change (unless you have enough money to buy a last minute trans-Atlantic ticket).

If your time in Munich coincides with Oktoberfest, then yes, definately book in advanced. Other than that, you should be fine.
