Booking flights

Friends:

Trying to book flights for a much-delayed family research trip to Germany for two weeks late August/early September. Would like to fly as directly as possible from Memphis to Frankfurt. Looks like either Atlanta or Detroit work as connection cities. I've flown through Atlanta enough to know to allow more than an hour layover there. Would like to fly back from either Berlin or Frankfurt to NYC for a day before heading home to Memphis. Looking on Delta b/c Rick noted prices there recently dropped. Not sure how to cobble together round-trip/multi-stop/one-way fares for best options. Also, is it worth it to pay the additional airfare for additional legroom on the long flights? Your advice, please! Vielen Dank!

You would cobble together the trip on the full website (not app) for whichever airline you choose. Look for the multi-city option. Sometimes it under an advanced search option.

The first trip would be Memphis to Frankfurt. Next leg is Berlin or Frankfurt to New York. Last leg is New York to Memphis.

You can plug all of this into google flights to get an idea of. Various options. But always book directly with the airline.

Only you can decide if the extra leg room is worth it. I’ve found the difference from economy to premier economy can be hundreds of dollars. Instead, we pay for an exit row in economy. If it’s a bulkhead seat, be aware that the seats are more narrow because the tray table is in the armrest between seats, and the armrest doesn’t go up. This seats are about $100 more.
