Boat cruise in Trier

We will be arriving a day early in Trier for a GAS tour. I have been researching things to do that day and see that there is a two hour boat excursion called "In the footsteps of the Romans "- round trip Zurlauben or round trip Pfalzel. Has anyone taken these cruises? Would you recommend them? Do you have any other suggestions? Thanks!

Not sure I would recommend any boat tour. We took one once on our arrival day. It was one of the worse things we ever did. Although we were sitting on an upper deck in the sun, the soft swaying/rocking of the boat, instantly put us to sleep. We tried our best to stay awake, walking around the deck, etc., just could not do it. Since the boat was half full, both sons laid down across a couple of deck chairs and went to sleep. I barely managed to stay standing the whole time.

That's funny!! We are thinking of doing it on the second day AFTER a good nights sleep!!

That would be a better option. That was the most miserable two hours we ever spent on a boat.

Why not take Germany's most scenic boat cruise? If you fly into FRA, you can route yourselves by train to Trier via Koblenz, which takes you through the Middle Rhine Valley (which is not part of your tour); the 1.5-hr. cruise between Bingen and St. Goar is the most scenic part of the Rhine and the most sought-after. Just get off the train in Bingen, head to the boat docks, cruise to St. Goar, then board the next train to Koblenz (where you change for Trier.)

If you are not overly tired after your arrival, you can boat or train to Saarburg close by, a pretty old town.
