My 20-year old son is very eager to see the BMW museum when we are in Munich in December - but I’m at a loss to figure out the difference between the museum tour and the welt tour. Has anyone done either / both of these? Thanks!
We did this 6 years ago. There are 3 different buildings, the Welt (kind of a fancy showroom with some displays), the Museum which took about an hour and a half to see, and the plant/factory. We booked the Plant tour, which takes you with a guided group through the factory. I'm not a big car fan (my husband's the BMW lover) but it was still pretty fascinating and memorable! Then we visited the museum and walked through the museum at our leisure.
If he loves cars/BMWs, the plant is the #1 thing to see. Do you have tickets? I know things are off with COVID but we had to buy our plant tour tickets a long ways out. Those are limited in number and you (I believe) need the English tour. And I remember it being a pain and having to call Germany late in the night (Arizona time). It looks like you can email them now. But it was still worth it!
Thank you so much - that's exactly what I needed to know! Just sent an email hoping to get tickets for the factory tour. Fingers crossed!
I would suggest the Audi museum if he’s a car guy. After reading your post I might do the factory tour at BMW. Have fun, we will be there in Dec also.
I'm not all that into cars myself - but I think I enjoyed the BMW Museum even more than my husband did. And I regret not buying tickets for the plant tour ahead of time.
The BMW complex is across the street from the site of the 1972 Summer Olympics - now Olympic Park. We had a great cheap beer and sausage lunch at a cafeteria in Olympic Park.
You're welcome! And even if you can't do the plant tour, the museum is also very interesting. Still a great visit!
This is super helpful, thank you!
