black forest konus card

do all black forest lodgings provide a konus card....If not, how do you know which ones? Must you stay so many days to receive one?

almost all.

Freiburg im Breisgau is the main city which does not.

The participating towns are listed on the KONUS website.

Freiburg im Breisgau is the main city which does not.

Because Freiburg is outside the Konus area. See list of towns on page 2 of this flyer.

The only Black Forest towns I've stayed in recently, Bad Herrenalb and Bad Wildbad, both in the northern BF, did participate. There is no minimum stay that I know of.

There is no minimum stay. It was a little hazy (at my stay) about the Konus card on the day of departure. I BELIEVE that by the book, you get the card for your entire day of departure. But my hotel, for some reason, wanted the physical card back before my departure. I got the idea that they would use the same card, revalidated, for another customer (?) Because I was leaving by car, I didn't care, so I didn't go to the mat on the issue. Since the card only gets you to relatively nearby places, it may not be important when you leave the Black Forest for distant destination. (I have used some pass-like rail tickets to an international border, and bought a second ticket for the last part of the journey. But I didn't get a big thrill, or a big savings from standing in line for the extra transaction!)

I've never had to give mine back. It is valid through the entire date of departure. I just tucked it in my wallet and have never actually been asked for it.

It is very helpful. I've never used it on buses but it valid there too.

I've been to several places where the transit card was a permanent plastic card that stayed with the place, so I couldn't use it the day I left, although in at least one of the places I was going far enough to need a Länder-Ticket, so I didn't need the pass that day anyway. When I stayed in the Black Forest, my Konus card was a paper one that I got to take with me and could use that day, but again I was using a Tagesticket that included transportation in the town I was leaving so I didn't need the card there either.

"...do all black forest lodgings provide a konus card....If not, how do you know which ones?"

All lodgings WITHIN A PARTICIPATING TOWN will issue the KONUS card - hostels, B&B's, apartments, hotels. Which towns choose to participate? You must refer to the list of towns that Lee provided.

FREIBURG: Freiburg chooses not to participate - it isn't a matter of Freiburg lying "outside" the KONUS area (it obviously lies within it - see flyer map.) The map tells you nothing about the availability of the KONUS card - the map is there only to show the TRAVEL ZONE you can use once you have the KONUS card in your possession.

I have never received a plastic KONUS card, but it's been a few years - mine was always paper and was always valid for the full duration of my Abreisetag (my check-out date.) If one must now RETURN the plastic card, that's a change of policy that clearly reduces the usefulness of the card. Still, it's hard to argue with "free" on the other days.

thanks for all the input. I might look to stay in Gengenbach. I could use the konus card to get to Kehl...then tram to strassbourg. Any suggestions from Gengenbach to ???? on one or two other days? Been to Baden, Triberg , and the alsace. Thanks again

Gengenbach is a good choice. You can go in any direction from there. Riding the long Black Forest line train from there is good fun. The tiny trains are good too.

Gengenbach to Strasbourg and back: You'll probably be riding one of the S-bahn trains rather than a tram. Here's a pic of a typical S-bahn train for this route.

The KONUS card gets you to Kehl. I assume this is a day trip and you'll return to G'bach. You can buy a "Europass 24h mini" - €6.60/ one. The "family:" version is €10.90. Both can be bought at Gengenbach station ticket machines, are good for the Kehl-Strasbourg-Kehl round trip, and will save you a few Euros over the standard fare ticket (€4.30 each direction.)

Is Gutach not on your list of destinations? It's quite close to Gengenbach.

Russ..thx I also got Gutach on my last trip. Are Konstanz or titisee a good konus train trip and which would be best to got day tripping from gutach? I drove last trip and it was terrific to see Triberg Gutach and alpirsbach...want to catch something on the local train if possible.

It's a longer trip to Titisee (touristy town but nice place for walking/hiking) and due to rail construction the journey to Titisee is a bit longer than normal - 2.5 hours from Gutach one way, less from Gengenbach - and involves a bus ride (SEV replacement bus.) Check the DB schedule for your date - be sure to check "only local transport" when you search.

Konstanz is not within the KONUS travel zone.

Basel SBB is a KONUS destination. So is Villingen (nice old town with wall and towers.) Schiltach is very handsome and on the Kinzig Valley train route to Alpirsbach and Freudenstadt (blue route is the Black Forest Railway line) -

Donaueschingen might have something of interest for you.

Haslach:
We visited this WW II forced-labor-camp memorial site in the woods and up a hillside outside town. Displays are in German only.

There's a mine tour you can take in the same neighborhood - not sure about the availability of tours in English:

There's a Black Forest costume museum in Haslach as well.

I checked the KONUS rules: The card is supposed to be valid after check-out on the day you leave.
"KONUS kann zur Abreise, jedoch nicht zur Anreise genutzt werden."
