Black forest cuckoo clocks VDS vs MCC certified

I've googled and researched quite a bit about cuckoo clocks but can't really find anything that's compared VDS certified vs MCC certified clocks. Im wanting to by the best 8 day hunter themed clock, and or possibly a shelf clock instead of a hanging one because they seem to be more rare. I've read about olis and house of 1000 clocks. Does anyone have any good information about what type would be the best investment, best quality, and/or where to buy? I'm going to Germany in March and will be in triberg for a couple of days. Thanks

I've been there, actually at Gerald Burger's shop, which is right next to Oli's. As far as I can tell, MCC is Master Carver's Club, and VDS is Verein die Schwarzwalduhr. They look to be just different local consortiums of clockmakers who have a set of standards to certify that clocks are actually made in the area with traditional methods. When you go, just stop in to the shops and speak to them. They can explain all the ins and outs of the quality of the carvings and why one clock might be 1000 EUR, and another 1600 EUR. And yes, they are salesman, but they are happy to help and we saw no "high pressure" tactics. In the end, they all live together in the same small village and know each others business. So I don't think you can expect any special deals. Their attitude is "You get what you pay for".

We didn't buy a clock, but wifey took a fancy to a wood carving she thought she cold turn into a table. We had to buy a new large suitcase at Cologne Hbf to fit it in to get it home. Never made it as a table. Its hanging on the dining room wall.

Thanks for the reply, yea I don't want a salesman to try to get me to by something that really isn't what I'm thinking it is due to my ignorance of clocks. Thats why ive been reading up so much on the different types, qualities, and towns to buy in.
