Can anyone suggest the best route from the Black Forest area into Switzerland? we are straying in Lucerne.
Where in the Black Forest to where in Switzerland? (OK, you said you are staying in Luzern, but are you going directly there?)
And by which mode of transport (car, train, hiking?)
The Black Forest is about 100 miles from Stuttgart in the north to where it borders on Switzerland in the south, so "where" makes a big difference.
The main North-South route is in the Rhine valley, which is to the west side of the Black Forest. Trying to go north to south in the Black Forest will be slow, but picturesque.
The fastest route will be to head west, to Baden-baden, Offenburg, Freiburg im Breisgau or wherever in the Rhine valley is nearest to where you are starting from, then turn south. Both the Autobahn A5 and the main railway line run in the Rhine valley. You then cross the border at Basel, and continue.

The best way of finding a route is to enter your starting and ending points into a rail search website (such as www.bahn.de ) or a road site (such as www.viamichelin.com ).
We will be traveling by car and coming from Colmar France into the Black Forest area. After some sightseeing we will be headed to Lucerne . I love back roads and scenic routes, but also don't want to spend all our time in the car! Thanks
