Black Forest by car - from Strasbourg - including Diersheim

Still working on our trip... Heading out in just a few days!!

On a Wednesday we will wake up in Strasbourg, rent a car, and drive to Diersheim, where my husband's family is from (we can trace them as far back as 1580). I don't see us spending too much time there, so the question is what to do with the rest of our day!!

We were thinking we would drive down to the Freiburg, Triberg area. What should we see, where should we go? We love the quaint towns, churches and restaurants, but we also really love nature, beautiful scenery, waterfalls, etc...

Any thoughts on specifics? Thanks for any help!

Sounds like you already know there is a waterfall in Triberg. There is a way to get to Triberg from Offenburg by car, and it's a scenic trip along the side of the Gutach river valley, but the road hugs the steep side of the valley and, it would be inadvisable for the driver to watch the scenery while driving. There is also a train line that goes along the same route to Triberg and would allow everyone to enjoy the scenery. It then goes on to Donaueschingen. From there you can go to Freiburg via Titisee and back down the Rhein to Strasbourg.
