Hi all.
I have been to the black forest as a child and to Freiburg as an adult but I don't remember much. I am thinking of going there by train in November and am wondering what the best train station would be to get me close to some beginner/intermediate hikes. Any advice on nice towns to stay and things to do would be much appreciated.

I like to stay in Gengenbach. For information about hikes from a town, the town website will usually have a WANDERN tab.
You maybe don't know, but November is the worst time for Black Forest. It is cold, it rains often, days are short.
This past November we had snow in that part of Germany. Wandering is limited and most of the huts are closed. But if you aim at Thanksgiving weekend you'll find the Christmas market in Freiburg to be quite good.
Maulbronn Monastery is well worth the visit.
