Biking in Eastern/Central Germany, between Prague and Berlin, for a day

I have two nights free to stop in some town between my trip to Prague and Berlin in May (2015), and was wondering if there are any cities that are particularly good for renting a bike and seeing either the city or countryside.

I will be travelling with one other person, can we can rent bikes for the day on our own, or would consider a guided tour.

Thanks in advance,
Bobby

The best and easiest option is Dresden. You can follow the Elbe Cycle Route, the most popular German cycling route, from the city up to the Czech border. On your way you pass the Elbe castles, the Blue Wonder, Blasewitz and Loschwitz, which are Dresdens poshest and nicest living quarters, Pillnitz castle and some vineyards, Pirna, a nice cozy town with a preserved centre, and finally Saxon Switzerland with the Bastei bridge and Königstein Fortress.
The good thing about this route is that the train runs on the other bank of the river, and you can always return to Dresden by train.

Thanks for that very helpful info - I will definitely look into Dresden.
