Biking from Fussen to Neuchwanstein castle

Ive seen several mentions of people doing this. I assume there is someplace to securely park your bike? Do you have to leave your bike when you get the property and then take the shuttles to/from the 2 castles? I assume you can't just ride your bike straight up to the castle entrances?
TIA!

I did this, it’s great and an easy ride. There’s a bike path from Fussen that goes into the castle complex. There’s a large tourist center area on the valley floor where you’ll find all the ticket offices, restaurants, parking and bike racks. Hohenschwangau Castle is a short walk from all this. You’ll need to board a shuttle bus to get up to Neuchwanstein and the bridge (everyone does.) Don’t skip Hohenschwangau btw, the tour groups are smaller and it’s very enjoyable. It’s been some years, so I’m sure some of the details have changed but be sure you have your tickets reserved and a plan for this place. It’s all very organized but a massive amount of tourists come through here. If you’re prepared, it is easy.

After that, the luge ride is nearby and you can also take a ride around Wansee(?) lake. The lake is fed by snowmelt however, and in early May it was still just a big mud hole!

You are probably talking about Forggensee (Lake Forggen). This is an artificial reservoir and is used on the one hand to generate electricity and also to regulate flooding of the river Lech after the snow has melted. In October the lake will be drained and by June 1st at the latest the water is let in again.

The old Roman road Via Claudia Augusta crosses the lake on the west bank. It is a great experience to go into the almost empty lake in winter - just did this some days ago :-) There was already an unusual amount of water in the lake, but it was still fantastic.
I was standing in the middle of the lake when I photographed this panorama last Sunday: https://www.flickr.com/photos/calabrones/52764039708/in/dateposted/

Ha, serves me right for not checking the name, Mignon. Cool photo! Thanks for the context all these years later :)

You don't have to ride the shuttle now, do you? I walked up the steep hill and down as well each time I've been. It's not fun, or worth it for the short time you're on the mandatory guided tour of the inside of N-stein.
