My wife wants to do this in May or June of 2016. Anyone done this and have some ideas and who to book with etc.?

I've biked down the Main/Rhine from Frankfurt to Cologne two years ago. There are well marked and signed bicycle paths along the entire route that are super easy to follow http://www.rhinecycleroute.eu/. We just put our bicycles and packs on a train to Frankfurt and went off, no booking in advance or anything and found lodging along the way, so I can't comment on tours, agents or rentals.

Never done a bicycle tour, but I have stayed near the Donau and Altmühl several times where groups and individual bikers would stay the night. This was near Keilheim - Regensberg area. I think they set their own itenerary as it did not look like an organised tour. If you search for "Donauradweg" (Danube Way) you will see sites for Radurlaub (bike vacation), Radreisen (bike trip). Several have English pages and some have ship and bike combinations that looked interesting. We have 60 year old friends that bike and all they take are their riding cloths, a change for dinner and personal hygiene stuff in a ruck for each traveling light.
