My wife and I will be visiting Rothenburg next month and had planned to do some biking through the countryside around the city. However, Rad & Tat (the Rick Steves suggested shop) will be closed for holiday while we are there. I found two other bike shops in the area, but neither rents bikes. Any suggestions of where we might rent a couple bikes?

We did contact the hotel. They gave us the name of another bike shop - but that shop does not rent bikes.

Did a search on Radverleih - Bike Rental in Rothenburg

It only lists 3 bike shops in Rothenburg and the "Rad and Tat" was the only one showing that it rented bikes. Sorry, no help. It did show "Elektro-Fahrrädern" rentals at the Hotel Schranne. Not sure what that means.
I will add that there are multiple scenic walks from Rothenburg down into the Tauber Valley. You are not stuck in town.

Electrical assist bikes. I also saw the Schwarzes Lamm and Eisenhut had little bike rental icons in the tourist brochure, but no mention on their website. Might email them. Eisenhut is inside the walls and pretty pricey.
