In early June, my husband, 15 and 17 year old sons, and I will be driving from Rothenburg (leaving about 9am) to Rust (want to arrive by 7:30pm). The drive is between 3 1/2 to 3 3/4 hours; this means we can spend about seven hours visiting one of the following: Heidelberg, Stuttgart, or Strasbourg, France.
We're currently leaning towards Stuttgart for the Merecedes-Benz Museum, but I'd love some opinions.
[For context: this is our first trip to Europe. We will have already visited Munich, the Neuschwanstein castle area, and Nurnberg. We'll be headed to Lauterbrunnen and Paris later.]
We're open to other ideas for this day as well.

The Mercedes Museum is a must for any car guy. You'd be hard pressed to get me out of there in 4 hours.
