Between Rotheburg and Bamberg, which should I schedule for Sunday

I am unable to avoid visiting on Sunday (when shops are closed), I usually use it as a travel day but for Rotheburg/Bamberg, I'm unable to avoid it.

So between the two towns, which should I do on a Sunday (ie which has the least interesting shops and more things to see that are open on Sundays).... I'm not a fanatic shopper but I do like to go and have a look at shops for souvenirs and also to support the local small businesses. Is there enough to sight see (eg churches, wander the streets, museums etc) to fill up the day ?

If not, I might stay an extra day in the area so I can avoid visiting on Sunday, but then what can I do to fill that Sunday - I'll be staying in Wurzburg at the time.

It really depends on when you're going to be there. But there will be places open in Wurzburg and Rothenburg, and probably even in Bamberg (I haven't been there in a while). The Residence and the castle in Wurzburg will be open. In RodT, in season, most of the attractions will be running after the busses start showing up (around 10). But Nuremberg will also have the museums open. And if there's a local fest it will definitely be running Sunday afternoon.

Thanks. Thinking of mid to late May at the moment.

Have been to Nuremberg earlier this year so it’s too soon to go back again lol.

Sorry what is rodt you mentioned above?

Rothenburg ob der Tauber (above the Tauber river valley)

Rothenburg has many more shops and tourism related businesses than Bamberg. In Bamberg, museums and the tourist sights will be open, as well as the beer halls and gardens, and restaurants.

Ah okay thank you.

Then I think I’ll do Rothenburg on Saturday and bamberg on Sunday. I was about to cancel one of them because of travelling on Sunday but it sounds like bamberg might still be worth going to on a Sunday.

We were in Bamberg this summer on a Sunday and the beer gardens, museums, breweries, and churches were open. The bigger problem was Monday, everything was closed! Loved Bamberg, fewer tourists than Rothenburg, bigger city, gorgeous buildings.
