What is the most convenient way to get to and from these airports. Is a taxi unreasonable ?
Thanks

From Munich downtown to MUC. Take the S-Bahn. S-Bahns go each way (east and west) from downtown (Hbf to Munich Ost) to the airport - one each way every 20 minutes (approx 10 min apart). About 40 minutes travel time.

Hi Diane, we are flying into Tegal on Sunday and will be needing to get to Alexanderplatz. The instructions I received was to take the Bus TXL and this will take you directly to Alexanderplatz.

Good luck!

München
München City – Airport München: Taxi 63 – 68 Euro
To buy a ticket for the S-Bahn is sometimes a challenge. (Even for German ;-) )
Berlin:
The Tegel Airport is in the city. There is a Taxi a good choice.
The buses 109, X9, TXL are also a great way to reach your destination. 2,70 Euro

As others have said, taking the S-bahn to MUC airport is far easier and cheaper due to the distance from city center. The S8 is slightly faster if coming from Marienplatz in the old town or Ostbahnhof, but the S1 will get you there as well; take whichever comes along first in the direction of the airport.

In Berlin, the TXL bus will take you to Alexanderplatz easily and cheaply but can take 40 min or so due to many stops and construction along the route. If carrying a bit of luggage or if you have more than 2 people, than a taxi might work better, if only for the convenience. TXL is a very easy airport to arrive at (though getting overcrowded now) distance from plane to taxi can be as little as 100 ft. if arriving in the main A terminal. Walking out to the main boulevard where the buses stop isn't that far of a walk either though so no worries.

Whichever you choose I promise you will enjoy both cities; on my last trip, 5 days in Berlin didn't even scratch the surface of things to do there.

You've got to be kidding. It's really easy.

Lee, you are being a little unfair. Working ticket machines is a bit like doing income taxes, it is easy once you know how. There is a learning curve. I remember messy lines at the Munich Airport as several folks, many Germans, tried to figure out a new ticket machine that sold both local network and Die Bahn tickets. Folks back in the line had to go forward and help some of the folks at the front. An American couple invited us to go ahead of them so they could look over our shoulder. We wanted a Bayern Ticket and they needed a Partner Ticket, so we stuck around and helped them after we got ours. The Sbahn is much cheaper and possibly faster than a Taxi at the Munich airport; so, it is worth making the effort. Someone will usually step forward if you need a little help with the machine.

You probably want an Airport/City Day Ticket. It's actually the same thing as the Entire Network Day Ticket, just better defined. It costs only slightly more than one way fares and gives you unlimited use of the network after you check in. The group day ticket is valid for up to five people, so for more than two people it actually costs less than one way tickets.

If you already know your date of arrival (you probably have flight tickets), you can purchase your tickets online from the MVV Ticket Shop, use a credit card, and print the ticket at home. Select one of the day tickets (Single or Group) and click "purchase". Put in the date and follow instructions.

If nothing else, there is a German Rail (DB) ticket counter in the Munich Airport Center (MAC), in the level above the S-Bahn station.
