Best train tickets for Munich & airport

I have been looking at the various ticket options on the MVV site for Munich. Our group of 4 will be there for 3 days and will go to the airport on the last day so I need that zone covered. We will be traveling just around Munich and not other cities in Germany (this is the last stop on a multi-country trip). It looks like the Isar weekly card may be the best choice so we don't have to keep buying individual tickets. Not sure if the Munchen card is a better value or not for the discounts. Any thoughts?

Are all of you traveling together all the time? If so, the 3-day Group zone M-6 CityTourCard looks good for 63.90 EUR total. There will only be a single ticket, so everyone has to travel together. If someone wants to split off, they will have to buy a single trip ticket.

The ticket mentioned by Sam is a little hard to find on the MVV website. I found it here. The one you want is the Gruppenkarte (group ticket), Zone M-6 (bottom right hand side of page). Select "3 days" (or "3 Tage" on the German language side).

Actually, the 3 day, M-6, Gruppenkarte, for 63,90€ is a little bit of overkill for what you probably want.

Note, almost everything Munich tourists normally see is in the M zone. That includes Marienplatz, Frauenkirche, Hofbräuhaus, the Residenz, Nymphenburg, the art museums, and the downtown Deutsches Museum. The two places most notably outside the M zone are Dachau and the Deutsches Museum aircraft exhibit at Schließheim. Also note, that all of the tram lines run only in the M Zone, and only three U-Bahn stations, those with Garching in the name are outside the M Zone, so, if you stick to the trams and the U-Bahn, you won't have much concern about leaving the M Zone.

If, for the first two day, you don't plan on visiting any venue outside the downtown area (Zone M), you only need 1 day, Zone M Tageskarten, at 17,-€ for each of those days. And, the airport is in Zone 5, so a one day, Zone M-5, Tageskarte, for 27,80 is all you need to purchase to go to the airport for the last day. Those three ticket prices add up to 61,80€.

I know most people might not buy 3 separate tickets to save ~2,-€, but I'm cheap enough to do that (and I love to play the system).
