Best things to do in Frankfurt, Germany in 1 day?

Hi all,

We'll be in Frankfurt 1 day and looking for things to do there. In Rick Steves book he suggests a walking tour of downtown Frankfurt, which we will do probably in a couple hours. We are mostly interested in historical buildings, churches, castles, cute towns, cobblestone roads, rivers, pretty scenery, etc.

Any other suggestions to see there other than what's in the downtown area?

Thanks,
Todd

When will you be here? There may be a festival happening or a good Farmers market. You could visit the neighborhood of Höchst if you want all the quaint stuff.
Are you interested in museums or possibly the Palmengarten?

We'll be there Sept 22. We're not interested in the Farmer's Market. We're not going to Germany to buy produce.

Historical, medieval buildings and cool stuff to see.

Tourists and local residents go to the Farmers Markets to eat lunch, have a glass of wine and take photos, not just to buy produce.
The 22nd is a Sunday and of course, there are no markets or stores open on Sundays anyway. You are missing our Harvest Fest that ends on the 21st.

Head to Höchst in the afternoon after your tour. The Justinus church will be open and this is one of the oldest churches in Germany as it was consecrated in 850. There is a small Schloss here surrounded by a dry moat, lots of half-timbered buildings, a nice river walk, especially where the Nidda river ends in the Main. Dinner at one of the Frankfurt-style restaurants is recommended. There are 3 of them sitting in the old market place in view of the Schloss. Zum Baeren, Alte Zoll Wache, and zum Schwann. All have delicious food.

"...interested in historical buildings, churches...."

Then I heartily suggest visiting Goethe's house/Museum, Germany's greatest poet, ca 15-20 mins or so from the main train station. My last time in Frankfurt in 2017 I went first and foremost to see this site, hadn't seen Goethe's Haus/Museum since 1973, my first time in Frankfurt.

Also, for the history , the Paulskirche , the church that was part of the crucial history of the 1848 Revolution, a turning point in German history.
