Best Schweinshaxe and biergarten northwest of Munich

OK, so here's my puzzle.

Due to illness my last several trips into Germany have had to be curtailed and my trips to Munich for the atmosphere and music, and food at a traditional Bavarian biergarten have gone unfulfilled.

Nothing wrong with Swabian or Franconian or Pfalzen food or atmosphere but not what I crave.

I want something similar to a southern Bavarian Biergarten with the live music, great atmosphere under the trees, and great Bratwurst and a great Schweinshaxe, ideally like at the Chinese Tower in the English Garden.

I hope that my sick leg will hold up and I can make it all the way to Munich and stay at my favourite place - and back home - without problems but if I have problems I'd love to find a great place short of my destination.

I'll be driving my personal car from home in England, probably entering Germany at Saarbrucken or perhaps KL on the Deutsche Weinstraße.

Yes, I know it is probably the impossible dream.

Thanks

You didn't tell us how far from Munich your "substitute" beer garden would be. In a 50 to 80 km radius north of Munich you might want to check out these beer gardens:

-- Biergarten in der Schlossallee in Haag a.d.Amper
-- Schloss Ratzenhofen near Mainburg
-- Kloster Weltenburg near Kelheim
-- Biergarten an der Donaufähre Eining
-- Kloster Scheyern near Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm
-- Schlossbrauerei Au in der Hallertau
-- Biergarten Künettegraben Ingolstadt
-- Antoniusschwaige Ingolstadt
-- Biergarten Schutterhof Ingolstadt
-- Kastaniengarten in Oberhaunstadt near Ingolstadt
-- Kuchlbauer in Abensberg
-- Zum Saliter in Neuburg an der Donau
-- Post in Kipfenberg

(list can be extended easily...)

thanks, sla.

We're not sure how far we will be able to get. It may well not be that we will not even reach Bavaria....
