Best route of travel from Berlin Germany to Oranienburg Germany?

Hello! Will be staying in Berlin Germany and would like to visit the Sachsenhausen concentration camp. What would be the best route of travel to get there from Berlin? Also, would it be possible to get to Amsterdam from Sachsenhausen?

Hi,

To get to Oranienburg from Berlin Hbf (central station), there is a regional train which has Stralsund as the terminus. That train stops at Oranienburg.

Use the train planner of the German railways for connections.
Are you planning to visit Sachsenhausen and continue on the same day to Amsterdam? It is a little bit rushed for me, but it is possible. The best way is probably to return to Berlin and pick up the direct Intercity train to Amsterdam.

I took the pink S-Bahn line (S-1) to Oranienburg, which is the end of the line. In looking it up to confirm the line, I saw that there's a bus (#804) that will then take you to the camp, but I remember walking. It took about a half an hour. I agree that seeing Sachsenhausen and then traveling to Amsterdam would make for a long day, and you'll have to backtrack to Berlin anyways. If you decide to do both, try to leave your lugggage either in your hotel or, better, in the Berlin train station from which you'll be leaving. I wouldn't want to bring my bags with me all the way out to Sachsenhausen just to turn around a few hours later and bring them back.

In relation to the two different types of train mentioned, you can get to Oranienburg both by S-Bahn and Regional Bahn. The Regional Bahn is faster, but less frequent, so if you miss one taking the next S-Bahn might still get you there faster. Also, depending on where you are staying in Berlin, it may be possible to get the S-Bahn from a local station directly to Oranienburg without having to travel to a larger station to get the Regional Bahn.

Fill out »Berlin Alexanderplatz« as your departure station on the rail planner, and you get all the connections.
For the train to Amsterdam, it's good to know it starts at Berlin Ostbahnhof, a much more easier station to handle than Berlin Hauptbahnhof and only one stop from Alexanderplatz.

Very true. If the train starts at Ostbahnhof , take it there. Ostbahnhof is much easier to handle than Hbf.
