Best place to stay in Munich out of these 3: Maxvorstadt, Altstadt, or Altstadt-Lehel.

We are traveling to Germany first week in april. We have been given these 3 choices based on the location of the person we are visiting. My husband and I would like easy access to shopping and activity (no car), fun and upbeat but not neccesarily night life, as we dont really drink. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Oh-- and we are considering Airbnb. Thank you!

The three areas broadly include the most tourist-attraction portions of Munich. All have some locations that may be noisy - check on Google Maps or StreetView to make sure you aren't too close to a bar.

Most people recommend Altstadt with it's proximity to most of the sites, transportation, shopping and restaurants.

Lehel is close to the city center and the Englischer Garten but still relatively quiet compared to Altstadt. The main draw back to Lehel is it is relatively sparse in terms of trams and u-Bahns compared with surrounding areas.

Maxvorstadt is closer to the student areas of Munich so you will find more nightlife here.

Another area I would suggest to look at is Haidhausen on the east side of the River. It's a popular area for young families. More transportation options than Lehel so it's easy to get to other part of the city, close to the Deutsches Museum, and lots of cafes and shops.

If it were I, I would want to stay in the Altstadt, or right outside, near Karlstor, for it's access to the town center (Marienplatz) and the pedestrian shopping street (Kaufingerstr.). However, if you are intent on using Airbnb, I think you are more likely to find that kind of accommodations outside the Altstadt, See first what you can find on Airbnb, then see if you have any of those areas to choose from.
