Travel to Frankfurt in December to visit Christmas Markets within 2 hours of Frankfurt. What area should we find a hotel? Want a hotel with close proximity to a train station, safe area, restaurants close by and any other locations that are best.

Anywhere around the Hauptwache. Try Flemings, Hilton, Motel One, Moxy.
From here, you can get direct trains to Mainz, Wiesbaden, Bad Homburg, or you are only 2 stops away from the main station where you can get direct trains to Limburg, Marburg, Rüdeseheim, Michelstadt, Seligenstadt, or Heidelberg.

As always, great advice from Ms Jo. If you get a bright, sunny day while seeing Frankfurt itself, I suggest lunch or a coffee atop the Galeria. Wonderful views of the city.
