Best Flights

Hello All Deutschland Travelers,
I would like to know the best airlines and best place to purchase flights to Frankfurt Airport or Munich Airport. Which USA airport are you flying out of to get the best flight ...hopefully a Non-Stop?

Thank you,

Patty Walker

Best is very subjective. But Munich and Frankfurt are Lufthansa's two hubs and they have flight to many North American cities.

San Francisco has some nice priced non stop flights on Condor to Frankfurt but price is deceptive as you pay extra for baggage.

I fly out of Seattle so not much use to you. Look up flights on kayak.com or Google Flights. The best choice for Germany is usually Lufthansa. Condor is a lower-priced alternative that gets mixed reviews (I've never used).

From your previous posts it appears you would be flying from Orlando.

The choice of Munich or Frankfurt would be dictated by what your destination is.

The airline website is the best place to buy a ticket.

You will have to define "best" when it comes to both airlines and airports. My definition may not be the same as yours or someone else's.

The best airport (to me) is the one closest to me that gets me where I want to go with the minimum number of connections and in the least amount of time. But I won't spend hours and hours driving to get to an airport just to save an hour or two flight time. YMMV.

I use Google Flights to search available flights from my home airport. You could also check flights out of any other international airports closest to you. In your case, I believe you flew out of Orlando last month. You could also check flights from Miami if you are willing to drive that far to catch a flight. Google flights will show the airline, price, flight duration, any connections, and the connection time. You can use filters to narrow down the possibilities. For example, you can restrict selections to non stop flights, which will give you only 1 flight a day from Orlando, but at twice the price of flights with a single connection. Your choice.

As far as the best place to purchase flights - that would ONLY ever be directly with the airline, unless the flight was included as part of a package vacation.

Luckily, SFO serves both Frankfurt and Munich. Munich is a much nicer airport, reputedly one of the best in the world. I saw that assertion in a travel magazine once before using MUC. After using MUC in 2013 , I absolutely agree.

Flying to Germany I go with United, non-stop, ie, the 11 hour overnight flight SFO to Frankfurt. United has its pros and cons, just have to put with them in Basic Economy.
