Best bratwurst near Munich train station?

We are spending the night in Munich, enough time for dinner and a night's sleep, but that's about it. Staying near the train station, and really would rather not get into straying too many blocks away from it.

Can someone recommended a place that serves excellent brats near the station? I dot even care if it's a curb side tent. Cheap is fine (better even) but i would like to go somewhere on a recommendation, not a wild guess

I remember having a good bratwurst IN the station, if you don't get another lead.

I have never been in the Munich train station, but have had a pretty good bratwurst in the Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof on more than one occasion.

First, I will warn you that what you might get as a Bratwurst in the US is somewhat different in Munich, and to limit your self to a Bratwurst overlooks an array of I think tastier choices.

For the evening, I would head to Augustiner Keller and beer garden located on Arnulfstraße 52. It is just North of the train station and a bit West. A big fun beer garden, then the option of a Beer Hall or cellar if you want a more of a meal. Several types of Wurst on the menus, including a variety platter.

I have to say though, you will miss the best Wurst, Weisswurst, that is typically only served in the morning, if your train leaves later in the morning, you could eat an early breakfast of Weisswurst, Pretzels and Weissbier, a classic Munich breakfast.

Not sure what time we are heading out in the morning, maybe 9am. I'll look into your suggestion

As for the beer halls, my wife and I Dont drink, at all, so we probably wouldn't get as much out of the experience as others. A small restaurant that serves amazing brats is enough for us

The post stating "in the train station" is pretty much on target. That's fast food for the locals, and it's good. Beer gardens too are a good choice, even if you don't drink.

There's a good Imbiss for wurst down by the open air market, about a 15 minute walk down past the Rathaus.

So, the train station is v. close to the Rathaus and the old city. If you are getting there late, my favorite place, the Viktualienmarkt will be closed. If I were going there, I would look for the Nürnberger Bratwurst - my fave. They are small and might not have that name in Munich. If you are getting there in the evening, I agree about Augustiner-Bräu.

The Markt is generally open till 6. I would recommend going into the Altstadt, look at the Frauenkirche and the Rathaus and go to the Augustiner-Bräu right near the Frauenkirche. You have enough time to go to Hofbräuhaus should you choose, though it is a bit farther from the train station and I prefer smaller place. Look at a map or use google maps to see the distances. Pls don't just stay in the station when so many interesting places are so close and in a relatively straight line.

Germany has like, hundreds of different sausages. Are you looking for one in particular? "Bratwurst" is just kind of a catch-all term that covers some grilled sausages.

Also in Munich you should just get a schweinhaxe.

My suggestion would be to have an excellent bratwurst at an imbiss at the train station or take an 11 minute walk (google directions) up Neuhauser Str. to Zum Augustiner on the right. Great traditional German dishes and one of my favorite restaurants in Munich city center.

Hi,

There are 2 sites where you can get a Bratwurst near and in Munich Hbf. Where are you staying exactly? I always stay in the Hbf area also so that on departure day I don't have depend on wheels to get me to the train station, ie take the stairs into the Bahnspassage. Several small hotels and Pensionen are located on Goethestrasse and Schillerstrasse.

Now, on the Bayrischer Strasse exit side of the station, ie, the side where the Burger King is located is a sausage stand (Imbiss). It's located just before short steps leading into the station. That Imbiss stand sells juice, pommes frites and different types of Wurst, among them the Bratwurst....good prices.

The 2nd site is inside the station itself in the area where the train platforms are. It sells juices too, but the price for the Bratwurst is higher than the outside Imbiss stand.

It depends on where you are. Take the underground passage that leads to the Karstadt dept store for good cheap eating but get there before 6 pm or earlier...don't know exactly when they begin packing up to close.

You could stay close to the station by walking over to Karlsplatz (Stachus), ie, one stop after Munich Hbf. The underground passage in the Karlsplatz station has eateries to choose from.

My husband and I don't drink either but it doesn't keep us from enjoying a beer hall experience. Go to Augustiner and enjoy the atmosphere.

I'm another who doesn't drink and we love Augustiner-Bräu. The atmosphere, the sweet chestnut trees, the Bavarian food.

The bratwurst is different to that found in Milwaukee.

If there are 4 of you that opens the possibility to mix and match.

At Augustiner-Bräu you can stroll around checking out all the stands and then choose what's appealing.

And, yes, Weißwurst is a lovely morning tradition. Don't forget to peel it. Again, the beer is optional. Pretzel is a good idea though.

@Nigel, so, what's different about the bratwurst there? I've made bratwurst and there aren't that many ingredients to mess with.

Oh Stan you’ve opened a can of worms! Every region has their specialty and butchers choose the cuts and grinds of meat, spices and ratio of ingredients. My favorites are Thuringia brats which I only expect to find in that area of Germany which I’ll be visiting this summer and the little tender Nuremberger brats which I’ll only eat in that city. Other brats come close but are someone’s interpretation of a hundreds year old recipe.

Hi,

You're only about 5-7 mins from the station, maybe less since that's Schiller Strasse.

Hi,

You are on the Bayrischer Strasse exit, you can enter the station where the Burger King is, that Imbiss stand will be to your left, ie across from the Burger King.
