We will be in Munich for at least 3 nights in early September. Two couples, all very fit seniors. Where would you suggest we stay for accessabiltiy by foot to most sites, good restaurants etc. Of course, we can use other modes of travel to get to other venues and areas of the city.
If you stay north of the old part of the city center, around the University and the museums, and close to a Ubahn station it's usually less expensive, and very easy to get into the Altstadt.
We have stayed at Hotel am Viktualienmarkt several times, and then Hotel Lux. Both are great, but we adored Hotel Lux! They are both very central. The Lux does not have a lift though, so if that matters it could be an issue. They do have a grand spiral staircase that has benches at each floor, so you can rest if need be. The stairwell is just beautiful, so you really don't notice climbing the stairs as much;)
We liked Hotel Torbrau which is an easy walk to the Marienplatz area. It is near the Isartor S bahn station which is convenient. This hotel also has a wonderful restaurant, Schapeau, which the hotel gave us a discount for.
Thank you to everyone for the accommodation recommendations. I will look at the hotel websites and decide which one.
