Berlin Welcome Card online purchase: how to validate etc

Hi,

We are traveling to Berlin next week. We will arrive at 6:30pm. The information center there that sells the welcome card closes at 7pm, so, I don’t think we’ll be able to buy it there.

The first leg of our journey to our accommodation is a bus.

If I have a welcome card, printed at home, will I be able to validate it for the bus? And will I be able to use it without yet having obtained a guide book - it states that you have to have both to use it, to get your book from a tourist information center...

I think we will be able to get one at the second part of our journey which is on the U-Bahn, it states you can get the books in stations- will the ticketing counters that distribute these be open at that time of night?

Feeling ina a bit of chicken egg conundrum.

Thanks for your help,

Amy

The Tourist Info in the main hall at Tegel airport (assume that is where you are arriving) is open until 10 pm daily. It is the one in Terminal A that closes at 7 pm.

Since you are arriving in the evening and probably don't have anything to use the card for that night, you might save a few EUR just buying a one-way transport ticket to your destination and buying one less day on the Welcome Card.

From the Berlin Welcome Card site FAQ:

Where do I receive the guide if I have already purchased the ticket online or at a ticket machine?
The guide is part of the Berlin WelcomeCard offer, and is to be presented when claiming reductions. You receive the guide when you present your Berlin WelcomeCard ticket (purchased from a ticket machine) in the Berlin Tourist Infos as well as at the sales points of the BVG and S-Bahn.

As for validation-also on the website:

"Please note:
After booking, you will be sent an e-ticket as a pdf attachment. For the ticket to be valid, it must be printed on A4 paper and you must carry it with you.
The e-ticket is only valid for the person named and the period selected. It does not have to be additionally validated.
Remember to carry it with you at all times when using Berlin’s public transport system. The e-ticket is only valid if shown on request with an official photo ID."

Thank you both, we will go to the other information center to purchase. That one was not listed on the welcome card site. We will go ahead and use it that night, because we will basically be in Berlin for 72 hours , so if we validate it at 7 pm Tuesday, or will expire a bit after our flight leaves on Friday.
