In a short while I will have to buy transportation tickets for several locations in Europe. One of which is Berlin to Krakow. Bus or train? We prefer day travel on this leg. We also have to consider the weather in Poland. Any suggestions?
The daytime trains require two connections due to construction work on the rail line. Therefore, DB German Rail is operating one direct bus per day, which is the easiest choice. It should be about as large and comfortable as a bus ever gets (I mean really not bad at all), and also sold with advance discounts.
The bus sure looks like the preferred option. Flying via Air Berlin is a possibility, and would get you there a bit quicker, but the cost would be at least triple what the bus fare would be. Given the cost tradeoff, and with the prospect of a relaxing daytime bus ride thru some beautiful countryside, the choice is pretty obvious.
Bus travel in Europe cannot be compared to that in the US. It's not Greyhound, plain and simple. I've taken buses from town A to town B in Germany, Sweden, Poland, France....all very satisfactory and pleasant. Check with Berlinlinienbus. They have a ticket office at Berlin Ostbahnhof.
