We will be driving through the country..any suggestions as to a more scenic route or destinations that we should not miss? Parents and a 27 yo
Thanks
I can't help with your question, but those who can will need to know:
- How long do you have to make this journey?
- What else are you seeing on the trip (i.e., what is your complete itinerary so far)?
- What interests you, and what does not interest you (museums, scenery, small towns, industrial heritage, car museums?)
Hi,
Admittedly, the question is a bit vague as to your interests, priorities, etc. Going from Berlin to Köln you have some choices.... stop by in Minden an der Weser ( number of historical sights/museums, the Mittellandkanal, just a nice small town), or in Soest, the oldest town in Westphalia. I've travelled in this area alot esp. regarding the historical sites, if that is one of your main interests, such as in Hannover, Magdeburg, Duisburg, Minden, Hameln. Dortmund, Wesel, etc.
If you have a car, definately consider the Hartz mountain region, with the towns of Quedlinburg, Wernigerode and Goslar being the highlights. Particulary Quedlinburg.
It would help to know how much time you have. Will you use a satnav?
www.viamichelin.com will recommend what they call "discovery" routes. You could, for instance route through Leipzig, and Buchenwald Concentration Camp Memorial, and Erfurt, and Wartburg Castle at Eisenach.
