Berlin Südkreuz closure question

Hello group. I have a reservation for ICE177 that was to depart from Berlin Südkreuz on 18 April at 15:23. I see the station is undergoing construction and the train isn’t stopping there now. Can I use my ticket and board at Berlin Hbf instead. My destination is Prague.

Yes you can. You have a ticket from "BERLIN" to "PRAGUE" good for 18.4.2025 (and probably also 19.4. Check in the upper right). Any train binding has been lifted.

Thank you so much for the reply. I’ve tried getting an answer from IDOS and DB and they weren’t helpful at all.

Train number is EC 177, not ICE 177. Correct?

Basic answer: yes, you can use ticket but re-check Hbf as change of trains or instead Ostbahnhof.

True is that the the tracks between Südkreuz and Hbf are under heavy construction from Apr 18-22 (source in German). Since the south tracks of Hbf are announced to be completely closed these four days I recommend to check better departing from Ostbahnhof. The DB journey planner offers an ICE to Hbf and transfer trains there.

I rather recommend to check with journey planner of S-Bahn how to get from your original address or Südkreuz to Ostbahnhof in time on this holiday (Sunday schedule). Safe shall be Südkreuz to Ostkreuz with S42 and then to Ostbahnhof with S3, S5 or S7. As long as this way only contains S-Bahn connections this shall work with your ticket as well.

Thank you Mark, you are correct, it is EC177

I arrive in Berlin via Icelandair from Reykjavik. My arrival is at 13:05 and I was going to take the S-9 to Berlin Hbf. I’m familiar with the terminal so I can find my at around there easily. I will just have a carry on so
I don’t have to wait at baggage claim. Originally I was going to take the S45 to Südkreuz because it’s less congested. I’m happy I checked now and saw that the station is under construction. I was concerned I had to change my ticket to reflect departure from Hbf but it seems it is ok as it is currently booked. Thank you for the reply

In this case just directly approach Ostbahnhof. For direct connection from BER airport you can choose any S9, RE8 or RB23 train into the center - no change of trains, no need to use Hbf or Südkreuz.

You will need a Singe Trip ticket ABC for EUR 4.70. Do not forget to time-stamp a bought paper ticket for validation - next to ticket machine.

If you need to wait at Ostbahnhof: on a nice day and without too much luggage you can have a small walk along the East Side Gallery which starts near the Ostbahnhof. Although of national holiday the Rewe supermarket in the basement shall be open, so you can buy something to drink or basics to eat.

Have a good and safe journey.

They assume that you know how train travel works...
