Berlin: strike on Wed & Thu (March 26 & 27) against parts of public transport

Next strike round. Text from BVG website:

"Strike on Wednesday, March 26, and Thursday, March 27, 2025

Verdi has announced that it will go on strike at the BVG on Wednesday, March 26, starting at 3:00 a.m., and Thursday, March 27. Subways, trams, and most BVG buses will be at a standstill.

The BVG had proposed an arbitration to reach a solution in the collective bargaining negotiations. The Verdi union instead responded with a renewed call for a strike. The BVG strongly condemns the announcement of further strikes, which will have massive impacts on our passengers, and calls on Verdi to finally work towards solutions.

During the strike, all subways and trams as well as most buses will be cancelled. We ask for your understanding that traffic may still be irregular for a few hours after the strike ends on Friday morning at approx. 3:00 a.m.

Passengers may use the S-Bahn and regional trains as well as the shared mobility providers via Jelbi as an alternative, while the strike at BVG is ongoing."

The BVG and the trade union Verdi want to hold a meeting on Tuesday morning to discuss a possible mediation of their wage dispute. This was confirmed to rbb by a BVG company spokesperson.

The BVG had suggested that the conflict be resolved through arbitration. The trade union Verdi has promised to consider arbitration. It would have to agree to such a voluntary procedure. In the event of arbitration, external parties attempt to mediate in a collective bargaining dispute and a peace obligation applies.

Thanks for the news. I'm arriving in Berlin on Thursday morning. I don't anticipate needing any transit that day except for the S9 from the airport to my hotel, so it shouldn't affect me much.

Update: In the meantime, both sides are ready for mediation. However, according to Verdi union, the planned warning strike on Wednesday and Thursday shall probably still take place.

@Layla: S9 shall be running. Just to be on the safe side here is the journey planner for S-Bahn (and all other means of Berlin public transport). Take care to buy from / to airport the ABC tariff of the tickets chosen and to validate paper tickets by time stamp (next to ticket machine).
