Berlin rail ticket to Amsterdam

Should i buy my ticket from Berlin to Amsterdam online now or wait until the day of departure?

If i should buy it now, should i use the Bahn website?

Travelling the middle of August.

Yes, buy it now. The price will only go up.
Yes, buy it on the DB website ( https://www.bahn.com/en/view/index.shtml ). You will get a "*print-at-home" ticket which you print out and show on the train.

For a random day in August (Wednesday 15th) I can see prices of €49.90, €59.90 and €69.90 depending on which train. For tomorrow I see €126.40 to €140.80, that is what you pay on the day of departure.

Enjoy your trip.

It's a longer ride, so there probably are not many different departures time you're considering. It's cheaper to book ahead and you'll see the price difference with any schedule search on the Bahn site. Booking there is easy.

Go online and buy it now. You won't get the least expensive fare because that was available a while back but you will at least be able to select seats from whatever is available now. If seating face forward is important to you especially on such a long rail trip, you definitely don't want to delay any more.

Yes, the DB website.

If you buy a saver fare, you are bound to the specific long-distance trains you have chosen at the time of booking. If that is okay for you, go ahead and book now. Concerning the comment about the forward-facing seats: Seat reservations are separate from the tickets (with the exception that first class tickets include a free reservation - in second class, the fee is 4.50 Euros).

That €4.50 added to the ticket price when buying a 2nd class ticket is well worth it if sitting face forward is important to a passenger. For a trip as long as Berlin to Amsterdam, it would be vital to me! But that's just my POV.

But it is not truly possible to determine which way the seats are facing.

Erich,

One other point to mention is that some of the trains on that route have as many as 5 changes, with travel times in excess of 8 hours. I'd suggest using one of the direct trains which have no changes and a travel time of 6H:27M. Mid-August schedules show direct departures from Berlin Hbf to Amsterdam Centraal at 08:34, 10:34 & 12:34 (there may be others, I didn't check).

As the others have mentioned, you can buy tickets for that trip from the Bahn website. If you're going to be buying tickets for other countries in addition to Germany (France, Italy, Spain), you can also buy tickets at www.trainline.eu at the same prices as that charged by the rail networks. Registration on the website is required, including payment information, but after that the process if very user friendly. They also have a smartphone app.

Thank you for the help.

i'm flying into Berlin at 12:30 and was hoping to spend more time in Berlin, but it looks like the latest direct ticket i can buy for August 19th is 16:34.

i'm told it would be risky to take a later train/bus that leaves at 21:54 and arrives at 5:40, since my flight is at 8:30. Do you agree?

Also, i was considering a non-direct train leaving a little later. It has 3 stops. i was thinking it might be nice to get off the train for an hour in another town? Is this a bad idea-in your opinion.

Thanks for your input.

You are flying into Berlin arriving in the afternoon, then going to Amsterdam by train the same day, then flying out of Amsterdam the next morning? Have I got that right? Why not just take a flight from Berlin to Amsterdam Schipol.
What airport are you arriving at in Berlin? Tegel or Schoenfeld? From Tegel, KLM has flights 4 flights to Schipol after 2 pm. 150 EUR. Easyjet has flights from Schoenfeld.
