BERLIN- Potsdamer Place luggage lockers

Greetings, Travelers!

Does anyone know how large the lockers are at the Potsdamer Platz station?

German word for lockers is "Schließfächer"

There are numerous comments on the Internet from folks who have actually stored luggage at Potsdamer Platz Station:
Bulky luggage, such as large backpacks or suitcases, can be stored left in the luggage lockers at Potsdamer Platz station (middle plane opposite the entrance/exit of the shopping mall Potsdamer Platz Arkaden).

Another site has this remark: "If you made too many purchases you may store it in the lockers at the Potsdamer Platz train station. Find the escalator to track 3 and 4. Have exact change with you: 2 and 1-EUR and 50 Cent."

Do these comments seem to take us to the same location??

Thank you!

Thank you, Sam!

I noticed that on the Bahnhof.de website. They also don't give a clue about where the lockers are located or what they charge.

The Germans are usually a lot more thorough with their information.

Here's the latest on lockers at Potsdammer Platz station from another forum source:

Lockers at potsdamer Platz 26" x 18" x 9" Suitcase fits "medium" sized locker. a little room in front for a camera bag or a purse.

My suitcase is 26 inches by 18 inches by 9 inches. It is soft-sided and fits snugly into the "medium" sized lockers. If you push the suitcase all the way to the back of the locker, there is a bit of room in front for a camera bag or purse. My carry-on is a small backpack and I usually stuff it into the suitcase before loading the locker.
By the way, the Potsdamer Platz Arkaden is a great place to dry out and warm up when the weather is wet and cold. There is a grocery and a food court in the lower level.

Simply look for the Schließfächer at Potsdamer Platz, or follow the international symbols, it's a major station and I would bet the large lockers you need are there, which would be 6 Euro.

I've never used them at Potsdamer Platz but know and/or have used the coin lockers in the other Berlin stations (Berlin Hbf, Berlin Ostbahnhof, Berlin-Zoo and Bahnhof Friedrichrichstrasse).

The advice is exact, accurate, ie, have the 2 and 1 Euro coins and the 50 cent piece. Unless you want to go the WC to use its changer, if the attendant doesn't tell you to get out first, there isn't one.

According to the DB FAQ: the standard measures of DB lockers are (in mm)

small: 273x420x800
large: 472x615x930

Thank you for your replies, everybody!

I made a mistake--I need to know about the availability of lockers at Bahnhof Zoologischer Garten (not Potsdam Platz).

Fred said he has used lockers at this station--do they have large lockers that would accept a standard suitcase?

I heard that Bahnhof Zoologischer Garten was undergoing renovations and they may have fewer lockers during the construction. Does anybody know if the number of lockers has been reduced?

Thank you!

True that Bahnhof Zoo has reduced the number of coin lockers just as it has taken out all (maybe couple remaining) coin phones and the post office. I would guess (educated) that the large lockers costing 6 Euro to operate are still present based on what I know of lockers in German train stations. How many left is another story.

I haven't seen the lockers at Bhf. Zoo in some time, ie 4-5 years or so since I don't stop there anymore, either on the regional train or S-Bahn when doing the west to east/east to west lateral route.

Bahnhof Zoo is "dead" relative to other Berlin train stations as regards to traffic (as I listed above) since only regional trains and the S-Bahn stop there going the west to east lateral route, such the S-3 to Eckner, the S-75 to Ahrensfelde, etc.

Thank you, Fred!

I'm planning to go from Rosa Luxemburg to Alexander Platz, then switch trains (I haven't sorted out S Bahn/U Bahn, etc, yet) and get to the Zoo stop where we can stash our overnight bags. We'll do some sightseeing and finish with a concert in the Kaiser Wilhelm Kirche.

After the concert we can go back to the Zoo station for our bags and travel to the Potsdam station where we have a room at the B&B hotel, which is right at the station.

@ sfswan....You're welcome. If you're at Alexanderplatz, you can go straight to Bhf. Zoo using one of several S-Bahn lines, the 75, , the 5, the 7, etc, basically, any line heading west will stop at Zoo. Some of the terminus stops going west are "Westkreuz," or "Potsdam Hbf," or "Wannsee"

The electronic tape will tell you the stations prior to Zoo and Alexanderplatz, which is Knotenpunkt (major junction point for the U and S-Bahn; between Zoo and Berlin Hbf are two stations, "Tiergarten" is the one before Zoo.

Rosa Luxemburg Platz is a U-Bahn station, I've heard of it but never was there.
