Berlin Marathon

Just discovered that our tour places us in Berlin on the weekend that the Berlin Marathon is held. How will this impact getting around and the major sites? We will only be there Saturday and Sunday (9/23 - 9/24).

One main impact is that the hotel room prices will be on record high. I don't know if you have pre-booked or minimum checked them already?

The city will have a lot of guests from all over the world. All sights will be open but expect waiting times at some of them. Brandenburger Tor is not accessible on Sunday (part of track).

On the weekend some streets will be closed for Saturday and Sunday, so all kind of road traffic incl. public buses will be impacted; the train-based public transport will be full because everybody will use them instead buses. The support teams are previewing the route.

Watching the marathon at a good place close to a music band can be a lot of fun.

We do have our hotel - thankfully. It looks like Brandenburg Tor may also be inaccessible on Saturday due to the Inline Skating event that is part of the Marathon. I guess we will look at it as lucky to be there during the celebration. Have seen the NY Marathon start and finish. It was exciting!
