Berlin - Long Weekend in July

My wife and I will be in Europe for a little over a week next month - first time in many years with no kids! We will be in Berlin for a short 72 hours over a weekend, and are looking for recommendations for sights and off the beaten path things to do. If there are major museums or historical sights that require advance booking, please advise. We'll be staying in Kreuzkölln Palais on the Paul-Lincke-Ufer.

Berlin (https://www.visitberlin.de/en) has for example over 170 museums - so it would be helpful to know your interests and what you are not interested in.

The Berlin Top 10 gives a first indication of most visited sights. Potsdam palaces are UNESCO world heritage.

Check also July events in Berlin.

For visiting the Reichstag with or without a free tour a pre-registration is highly recommended.

On day 1 a HoHo bus tour can help to get an overview.

Re-check "Kreuzkölln Palais on the Paul-Lincke-Ufer" - I never heard of.

Mark,

Thank you for the very helpful response! I was able to make a reservation for the Reichstag dome thanks to you. Unfortunately, the Reichstag tours themselves are booked 6 weeks out. As for the neighborhood, I believe it's actually called "Reuterkiez". I believe it's river side.

Thanks,
Vlad

Just saw it is an apartment with a registered number. The name "Palais" is imo very overdone, only some special buildings in Berlin carry this name.

I know Paul-Lincke-Ufer - lived not far from it. Reuterkiez is a different area (Kiez) south of it. Location is a little bit away from main public transport but bus M29 is an acceptable connection but take care of pickpockets there.

Be more careful around Görlitzer Park - drug-related crime. Same for core of Reuterkiez around Donaustrasse.

Have a good journey.

If you’re visiting the Wall Documentation Museum (sic) near Mauer park in Prenzlauer Berg, just up the U-Bahn line is the Kulturbrauei Museum on life in East Germany. I thought it was super interesting, and felt like a neighborhood secret. The other East Germany museum in Berlin has a reputation as being crowded and touristy. Those two sights make a good pairing. The Kulturbrauei is a big neighborhood collective with a bunch of different performance spaces, a grocery store, and a beer garden that looks like it’d be fun in nicer weather.
