My wife, young daughter, and I are visiting Berlin in the middle of July and will stay for 4 days. We decided to get a hotel in Charlottenburg because I lived there for most of the '80s. Can you please tell us besides the Tiergarten, Charlottenburg Palace, and Ku'damm, what other locations/attractions are now sehenswert in that Bezirk? We intend to use the BVG to get around to avoid the high cost of taxis. Thank you in advance for any advice.
Charlottenburg is now a subdistrict of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf. Tiergarten always was an own district incl. the park (and the zoo). I grew up in Tiergarten (70s / 80s).
The most valuable thing in Charlottenburg are the older people living there which can tell you more of Berlin than any tourist guide.
More sights in Charlottenburg:
- Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church
- Berlin Zoo and Aquarium
- Funkturm (radio tower)
- Haus des Rundfunks with concerts of Radiosinfonie-Orchester Berlin (https://www.rsb-online.de/)
- Famous open-air venue Waldbühne with breathtaking events, e. g. annual classic summer concert aka Berlin's largest picnic
- various museums, esp. around Charlottenburg Palace (see map in map of link below)
- various photo and art galleries, e. g. photo museum with Helmut Newton exhibition
- debris mountain Teufelsberg with former NSA station
- Technical and Art universities with exhibitions and events
- Olympic Stadium and bell tower
- Maison de France

See BVG recommendations in your other post.
No need to concentrate yourself on Charlottenburg. By S-Bahn or buses 100 / 200 you are very fast at Friedrichstrasse or Alexanderplatz (see network map). Do minimum the top 10 of Berlin. Hoho buses are also a valuable option.
For shopping it is not only Ku'damm in Charlottenburg but also Bikini Mall and Tauentzien. Charlottenburg still has flea and week markets in close reach. Best 2nd hand household items you can find in various shops in Suarezstrasse. You will still find great very specialized shops in side streets of Charlottenburg: cameras, sports / runners, vintage fashion, vinyl music, model cars, ...
And a lot of very special restaurants and bars.
