I will be in Berlin for 2.5 days in June with my 2 kids, age 8 and 11. How good are the free Berlin walking tours. I booked one through Civitatis. Will that be any good? Anyone has experience with the company or can suggest some other walking tours that kids will also enjoy.
Thanks
As a local I tried the Insider Walking Tour which had an accuracy of around 80% - very much depending on the guide.
Be aware that Berlin covers a huge area, so maybe too much for the young feet? I recommend to check rickshaw tours which can also stop at a playground for some minutes if necessary. Also Hoho bus tours cover a large area in short time with explanations.
The two zoos and the Aquarium of Berlin are places that are very liked by kids. See also other attractions for children in Berlin.
I think your kids are old enough to enjoy a visit to the dome at the Reichstag - look into purchasing tickets in advance - close to sunset may be the best time to visit. A boat ride on the River Spree would be another good option.
We really enjoyed our free walking tour of Berlin with Sandemans. However, I think with any walking tour it really depends on your guide. Our tour covered quite a bit of ground in 2 hours, so you will have to gauge how much your kids can walk and stand on any tour. There weren't really places to sit along the way. I imagine a lot of Berlin walking tours follow a similar route.
Personally, I think a walking tour for an 8 year old might be too much. Even for the 11 year old, it may be on the boring side.
I would find something else to do. Visit the Olympic Stadium, or the Zoo.
thanks so much for the insight. My kids are fairly good with walking. Also wanted to check if Charlottenburg Palace is something kids would enjoy and can it be covered in 2 hrs.
