Berlin Concerts, Theater, or Whatever?

Looking for possible suggestions for concerts, theater, etc. in Berlin? I guess I am looking for venues with excellent performances…..but not necessarily budget busters. Were there ticket booking issues? We are more interested in orchestral performances. Thanks!

"Berlin concerts...venues with excellent performances."
That sounds like the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.

I don't know when you'll be going but last year we had an opportunity to experience Berlin Musik Festival. They have a variety of acts to suit all tastes. We went on Sept 2 for a performance at the Berlin Philarmonie by the Staatskapelle. It was the highlight of our trip! The music was fantastic and the Philarmonie is beautiful! We booked online but had the tickets mailed to our rental apartment. The booking process was quite easy and you got to choose your seats. The seats we bought were around 65e a piece but there were also cheaper tickets.

I have a treat for you- a way to combine sightseeing inside the Charlottenburg Palace, a wonderful dinner in its small Orangery, then a classical concert of orchestra music of Bach, Handel, Mozart and other composers with the feel of theater since they wear authentic costumes of the Baroque era!

This is the combination tour, dinner, and concert of the Berlin Palace Orchestra at Charlottenburg Palace. You pick up your tickets at the small Orangery (pre-order on line) then go on a tour of the gorgeous ceremonial rooms and chambers of the Charlottenburg Palace, then go into the small Orangery for a candle-lit dinner, then on to the large Orangery for a spectacular classical concern in a stunning room with fine acoustics as performed by professionals dressed in costume. This more than a concert- it is an event. They call it Royal Extravaganza at Berlin Residence Concert. For information and tickets, go to www.concerts-berlin.com/english/our-packages/3-royal-extravaganza.html

You can also just choose concerts without tours and dinner or concerts with dinner, etc. Check out their main site to see about those. www.concerts-berlin.com/english/orchestra.html

http://www.visitberlin.de/en This guide to the city includes info on events and venues, including a month-by-month calendar. Berlin is a centre for classical music, both concerts and opera (at least three major companies.) Tickets tend to be moderately priced since there is substantial government financial support for the arts. Many places now have on-line ticket sales. One particular bargain is the State Opera, which has been banished from its home opera house for renovations (which are taking a long time) and now perform in a '60s-era hall which is small enough that every seat is close to the world-class performers. http://www.staatsoper-berlin.de/en_EN
Theatre offers less choice unless you speak German. Of course the subtitles at the opera are in German too.
