I will be flying in to Tegel 12:30 pm, staying 4 nights, and departing from Tegel @ 2:30 flight. I have open days, but would like to see the main spots: one or 2 museums, TV tower, Reichastag, different quarters of city, possible Spree River cruise, etc., within Berlin, possibly a half or full day trip to Potsdam (not sure yet). Without doing all the math for admission $ , would it be worth getting a Berlin Card which would include all transport (2 or 3 zones?) and how many days since i'll be arriving mid day and departing mid morning. ty.
Sorry, but you will have to do the maths. You can’t expect any posters here to do this for you.
There is more than enough in Berlin to keep you occupied for your 3.5 days without a trip to Potsdam.
I have never been anywhere where the city Cards are worthwhile for me.
Check out the idea of using a 3 day Museum Pass and using a day pass for getting around. Note there are timed admission slots for some of the Island Musuems like Pergamon. If you don’t want to figure out all the costs then yes just buy a Berlin Travel card for transportion. You may want to avoid using it for arrival day and just use it for the 3 full days.
There are different tourist cards for Berlin; most popular is the Berlin WelcomeCard. Just compare them with price for regular day tickets.
TY All for the feedback.
On going to Potsdam: What is top priority for you to see in Potsdam? I mean more of a priority that seeing some of the sights in Berlin? Forget the math.
Going to Potsdam is in zone 3 from Berlin Hbf, cost is 3,40 Euro or something like that. Is Potsdam worth it? Totally, depending on your historical and cultural level, especially as it pertains to Prussian history.
Valid point to know from Fred but small correction: Potsdam is always located in zone C, not zone 3 and independent from where. Just to be sure that OP has correct info and will not be worried.
Tip: If you only buy a AB zone Welcome Card you will need to buy an extension ticket per person per trip / direction.
Some other basics about Berlin's public transport.
Thanks...that's what I meant in terms of price.
Not only will you have to do the math but be aware that some of the most popular museums have been know to have long waiting lines and that the Welcome Card does not allow you to skip the line. The DDR Museum (per RS) and the Pergamon both have been known (according to the previous Forum posts I have read) to have long lines that would eat up valuable sightseeing time.
In my case I am opting for the six day ABC transit pass without the add-ons. This will insure that my wife and I can get back and forth to the airport (SFX) and have the option of taking Berlin's mass transit system wherever we want. We also won't be tied to seeing a certain sight just because we bought the card. Saving a Euro or two shouldn't be the determining factor in trying to create the experience of a lifetime for my wife and I. Frankly, listing all of the places we might go and then comparing prices with or without the card and then checking out info regarding entry or other limits just made the additional cost both too confusing and confining. 47 Euros each and the freedom to do what we want sounds just perfect for us.
All this being said, I shouldn't discourage you from trying the math yourself. There are museums where the card works great as well as discounts on a myriad of attractions that might be of interest to you. Pick what you really want to do and compare the individual costs versus the savings on the card or maybe just let the card 'guide' you.
https://sbahn.berlin/en/ This gives all the options. I would use the Short trip pass for arrival and departure days, and a daily pass for the full days. The 48 hour and 72 hour passes are good for convenience, but are more expensive.
