Berlin Bike Tour recommendations?

We're going to be in Berlin for 4 days this summer and I'd like to make a reservation for a bike tour. We always. like going on bike tours when visiting a city: it will give us an overview of the city and help us decide what to try to visit while we are there.

I'd love to get recommendations; I saw one person recommended "Fat Tire", which is now "Unlimited Biking" but I didn't like that they strongly encourage you to buy "insurance" that your bike isn't damaged or stolen during the day. That seems odd to me, do they get damaged or stolen so often that you need insurance? On prior city bike tours (in other cities) the guides have you park your bikes without locking them; if we do that and the bike gets stolen, it seems like it's the fault of the tour; should the rider have to pay for a new bike?

Also going to Prague and have the same question, but I'll post in the Czech Republic forum.

Thanks.

Around 80 bikes are stolen in Berlin each day - registered by police. True numbers 3, 4, 5 times higher? Nobody knows. Of course numbers are highest in tourist areas. Compared to Europe's most famous stolen-bikes town Amsterdam (less people) this number is not small.

Berlin has an own prevention web page: "Preventing bicycle theft – How to protect your bike effectively" and bike cops as well, not only caring for bike thefts.

But it is very easy to steal a bike from a tourist that has only eyes and attention for sights and the city.

And with tours better care for the quality of the guides, not about an insurance for a few Euro.

Mark, thanks for your response. Sounds like we should just buy the insurance! At least I'll feel better about it now, rather than feeling ripped off. Thanks again.
