Thank you - I was a little bit afraid of such an answer because the recommendation is not easy. Nothing against Werder which is more a little town than a village to me - have a look at it and if this is OK for you go for it.

The pearls are not close to Berlin and not all can easily reached by train. A small and tiny old character village is Paretz, close to Ketzin. A little larger is Burg (Spreewald) together with Lübbenau/Spreewald. Be aware that the "old world German culture" here is is mixed with Sorbian culture which is fully authentic for the region. You can also enjoy little boat tours through the forest.

Also Chorin was coming to my mind which is very easy to reach by RE3 (direct 45 min.) and has a fascinating monastery. The village core is very typical but not all houses there are very old or in an old style.

I second going to Werder an der Havel, the train goes there. How far of a radius are you willing to go from Berlin Hbf. ? Numerous places are connected by train.

Paretz is historically worth your time if you're interested in the dynasty of the Hohenzollerns within the realm of Prussian-German history, Schloss Paretz is there and it was the residence of the young Frederick William III and Queen Luisa . I saw the Schloss pre-pandemic.

Based on some of these little places I've visited, tracked down, I would suggest also Rheinsberg. When I was the Schloss was being refurbished , restored, etc. Depending on your max radius distance, visit Neustrelitz, also connected to the dynasty as Luisa was from Mecklenburg-Strelitz. The key site there is also the Schloss.
