Berlin-Amsterdam Train

I'll be taking the train from Berlin to Amsterdam on a Friday and was wondering whether to spend more time in Berlin during the day and take an afternoon train getting into Amsterdam well past 9pm or leave Berlin in the morning to get to Amsterdam in time for dinner and enjoy Friday night out. This is sort of a whirlwind trip for me, so not a lot of time will be spent in both cities - 2.5 days in Berlin and 2 days in Amsterdam. Afternoon train would make it roughly 3 days in Berlin for me while morning train would add an evening to Amsterdam. Thoughts?

you can't lose with whatever decision so go with the cheapest train ticket and use the money you save on something else

Either city could always use more time, so maybe it depends on how much of a "night out" person you are. The Van Gogh and Stedelijk Museums are open to [edited] 21:00 on Fridays, so you could take advantage of that. A few lesser Amsterdam sights are always open late (Hash Museum, Central Library, Cinema Center, and maybe some temporary exhibits). Or, you can carry your own dinner and beverages onto the later train.

Hi,
both cities have so much to offer that there won't be enough time anyway....
However, if you take that train on a Friday afternoon, do yourself a huge favour and make a seat reservation!!!

One other point to mention is that some of the trains on that route have as many as five changes with a travel time of about eight hours. I'd suggest taking one of the direct trains with no changes (travel time for those is 6H:26M), from Berlin Hbf to Amsterdam Centraal.

Trains from Berlin to Amsterdam can be found on DB's website: www.bahn.com.

I've decided to take the morning train to Amsterdam - that way I can enjoy a concert at the Concertgebouw that evening!

You should look into Flixbus? Pretty cheap, with clean comfortable buses.
