I have been looking at the airport maps and can't seem to locate the ATMS (preferably by a staffed bank) and a place to purchase the Welcome Card. I will be arriving in Terminal 1 Gate D. This all will be after passport control and the website says that are both to be on E0. On the below map, it says Tourist Information is this where I purchase the Welcome Card?
I flew in to the old airport, but bought my welcome card at the welcome center in the airport. The new airport says the welcome center is located in Terminal 1, level E0 which is the arrivals hall, open 9 - 9. https://www.visitberlin.de/en/berlin-brandenburg-welcomecenter The airport map shows a Berliner Volksbank on the same arrivals level but it's unclear if it is a staffed bank.
If the ATM is bank operated that should be fine for a no-problems and no charge withdrawal. Unlikely in this day that a bank would spend the effort to have a service ranch in an airport.
You might want to consider getting a hundred of so Euros from your local bank in the states before you go. It eliminates trying to find a machine, waiting in line to use it, the stress of hoping it works (they do malfunction and / or run out of money at times), and doing all that while jet lagged and on unfamilar turf. It will cost a little more than using an ATM upon arrival, but the extra cost compared to the total cost of the trip is very minor. Regardless of which you do, check with your bank to see if they need a travel advisory put on the account. Some do, some don't, and some are so big you might not get different answers.
When I was there back in the early fall I never did find a bank ATM. All I could find was odd ATMs. I finally used one in downtown but it was hard to locate a bank ATM. After I used it I did not get a receipt and don't know what fees they hit me with. The Welcome Card we had to wait for them to open to buy at airport. Overall I was not impressed with the Berlin airport. Very confusing, poor signage and not helpful staff.
I ordered my Welcome Card online..I also bought a pass at the hotel I was staying.
I am not familiar with Berlin Airport, the layout, etc but if I needed the Welcome Card, I would have gone from the airport to the central station, Berlin Hbf., where one of the Tourist Office is located and other so-called souvenir shops selling the Welcome Card.
Prior to landing in Europe, I have Euro on me anyway , just to have another payment method available as to avoid being stuck with using the credit card.
I flew into Berlin in late November. When buying transport tickets from a machine at the airport's S Bahn station I noticed that the Welcome Card was one of the options. For anyone going into Berlin from BER Airport-be sure to choose tickets including ABC zones.
