Berlin airport. Landing with Ryanair and departing SAS, checked bag?

Hello
We are flying Ryanair Marrakech to Berlin arriving at 10:55am Monday Sept 30th
Our next flight is on SAS to Oslo at 12:35pm.

Thats just over 90 minutes.

The question is checked bags?

  1. I am reading that Ryanair cannot check bags on a different airline.

  2. Will there be a place inside security to gather our checked bag and then check them in with sas AND have time to make the flight?

3 if we do have to leave security and check in bag at sas will we have enough time?

Any guidance would be really helpful.

Thank you!

I don’t think 1.5 hours is enough. You will be arriving from outside the Schengen Area. This means that upon arrival at Berlin, you will first need to go thru passport control to enter the Schengen zone. You will then need to pick up your bags, go to the regular bag drops counter which are outside the secure area, drop off your bags and go thru security.

Thank you. Thats what I was concerned about.

Is Berlin customs and airport security normally a quick or slow process?

If customs and airport security is quicker I am hopeful that we will be able to make the flights ourselves, but the bags might be delayed for later arrival.

What is your plan if your Ryanair flight is late or cancelled? You are self connecting, and have only left a short time between flights. So this is going to be very tight.
SAS checkin closes 40 minutes before departure. So you have till 11:55 to get to checkin. That only gives you one hour to pick up your luggage and make it to checkin. A small delay is enough and you are stuck finding another way to get to Oslo...

  1. Correct, Ryanair will not forward your bags to a different airline.

  2. No, because you could have all kinds of dangerous stuff in your checked in luggage that will not be allowed through security. Also keep in mind that SAS and Ryanair uses differen Terminals, and while they are close it still adds a couple of minutes to the transfer.

  3. Maybe, but I would not count on it. As mentioned you need to go through immigration as well, which can take time. Especially if you have a non-EU passport.

It might work, but the odds are in my opinion not in your favour.

I’m sorry but I don’t understand what you mean by this. You yourself will have to transfer your bags. No one else can do that for you. You will have to pick them up from the luggage carousel and physically take them to the SAS check in/bag drop. If the bag drop for your particular flight is closed, you can’t leave your bags there at the desk. So either you and your luggage make the flight together or neither you nor your luggage make the flight.
