My husband and I will be traveling back to Germany in May to visit my Aunt. We will be traveling to Austria, but we want to stay in Berchtesgaden and drive to Salzburg. Can anyone recommend an apartment rental within waking distance of eating and drinking? Thank you
Stay in Berchtesgaden and take the city bus caught at the train and bus station into Salzburg. I think it takes about 50 minutes to get to Salzburg. Then take it back to Berchtesgaden after your very good day in Salzburg. We did it last fall and you could not beat the relaxed journey. We are car lovers, but we kept the car in Berchtesgaden and bused in for the day. It is a little late to get a deal on a hotel and since you don't have a car you are limited on where you can stay. Looking at Booking.com will get you a hotel in Berchtesgaden. Try this one: Hotel Grunberger about a 3-minute walk to the bus station. 209.00 per night
My wife and I visited Berchesgaden in 2019 and heading back for 8 days in September. Last time we stayed at the Hotel Grunberger and it was great, nice free breakfast too! This year we will be staying at the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten. We choose the Jahreszeiten this year, as it was located right in the town center, the Grunberger is further away then the town center, close to the train station, but even so, with the constant public transportation in Berchtesgaden, it really didn't matter. Our price for the Jahreszeiten this year is 154 euro per night, can't remember what the Grunberger was when we checked. But the Grunberger was very nice! Not sure about apartment rentals.
