Berchtesgaden in December

Hello! We will be in Berchtesgaden in December for a few nights. I mainly want it as a jumping off point for Salzburg, and we have a hotel there we really like, Also, we have been to Berchtesgaden a few times. I know that the Eagles Nest will be closed in December and the Koening See may be already iced over so a hike to the Ober See might be out. What else is there to do in Berchtesgaden in December. We are not skiiers at all. (I am such a klutz, I would break something) I am trying to decide if I need/want an extra day here or move on. I have looked at the travel sites, but I wanted to pick your brain too. Thanks in advance!

Hi Susan,

We based in Schonau am Konigsee (5 minutes from Berchtesgaden) in early Dec. 2010 and 2013. Loved the Berchtesgaden Advent Market. Salzburg is an easy visit. We also went to St. Gilgen, took a cruise on the Wolfgangsee to St. Wolfgngsee, visited the old town and Advent markets there, etc. Nearby, Hallein, Austria has a nice market. There's also salt mines (Berchtesgaden and Hallein). Even though we had snow on both trips, it wasn't too much and it simply made the scenery even more beautiful. You could try sledding? Horse and sleigh ride?
