I've been up to the Eagles Nest three times and only once was there a clear, unobstructed view (one time it was so "foggy" you couldn't see the cross). When it's clear, the view is great. However, it was still an interesting experience being in a place that has such history. It was an eerie feeling knowing that Hitler had been in that same room. And the marble fireplace was a gift from Mussolini. I've had lunch there every time and, as I remember, the prices are reasonable.
Miserable? Except for the walk from the bus to the tunnel, you will be inside.
