BER airport - Safety systems & building inspection approved

New: After TÜV approval for all security systems today the building inspection was approved as well including the permission to operate BER as airport.

Original message:
Believe it or not but the TÜV has approved all security systems in the terminal of the new BER airport.

The airport boss emphasized: "The opening date of the BER has never been so sure. There are no risks for the initial operation on 31 October 2020."

German article about that

The irony of it all: airport finished at last, only to find no air traffic to serve.

That sounds like good news. But to be honest, this is one of those things I'll believe when I see it.

@Badger: You are not alone with that. :-)

I had flights booked in 2014 - leaving from BER which were shifted 4 weeks prior to departure back to TXL.

Let us see it positively: I guess it is the only airport which had no serious business interruption from Corona.

Maybe they thought that this was the perfect time to open the airport? With no flights operating they can just claim that it's open and operational and there is no way to prove them wrong :-)

I look forward to using the new airport. Maybe it will be easier to have connecting flights to Berlin. In the past, I experienced up to 8 hour layovers in Frankfurt while flying into Berlin.

A little late now, but you can get from FRA to Berlin Hbf in 4 1/4 to 5 hours by train with departures about every 1/2 hour. With an inexpensive Rail&Fly ticket, you can take any train you want.

"And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him after having to connect through Atlanta on the inbound."

(Yeah, I'm one of the folks who has ling said that the opening of BER was a sign the apocalypse was at hand)

Perhaps take the optimistic view, Hell has frozen over, or the less extreme possibility 'beware of flying pigs'?

Hell is a distant suburb of Ann Arbor, Michigan and consequently freezes over on a regular basis every winter. :)
