Beds in Germany lodgings

My husband and I are traveling to Germany and looking at rooms with double beds. One of us snores and bothers the other. I notice many of the rooms have two twins put together and I'm hoping those are roughly the size of a queen. Can the twin beds be pulled apart to give us more distance? We typically get a king size bed here in the states which works fine. Any other ideas except for ear plugs and separate rooms?

German accommodations often have "Zwei Bett" or "Doppelbett" Zimmer. A Zweibett Zimmer has two beds a little smaller than twin beds. A Doppelbett Zimmer has a much bed wider than a queen (2x a single), almost as wide as a king. I think that the Doppelbett is often in a frame that would prevent you from pulling it apart. Look for a "Zweibett Zimmer". They often cost more than a Dobbelbett Zimmer.

You could ask for a twin bedded room for 2. Nothing can be pulled apart far enough if snoring bothers you a lot, bring earplugs.

If you haven't booked it that way, you can always ask for twins when you get there.

When I lived in Germany, a friend of mine rented a furnished apartment. It had a bed with 2 mattresses right next to each other. I don't know if it had one frame for the mattresses or if there were 2 totally separate beds secured together. It was much wider than a queen or a king. In fact, it was so big that she called it the landing strip.

Do a Google Images search using the terms already suggested: doppelbettzimmer and zweibettzimmer. Frankly, I don't see a whole lot of difference between the two terms except that the pictures for the latter usually show the beds pulled apart like 2 twins. In either case, each bed typically has its own duvet.

FYI, my husband snored for years. He was finally diagnosed with sleep apnea. Now that he has a good CPAP, he's quiet as a mouse. That means better sleep for me and for him, not to mention that it's much better for his health.

That's it. A single bed in Germany is 0,9m (35.4 in) wide, narrower than an American twin (39 in). So, a zweibett zimmer has two 35.4 in wide beds. A Doppelbett in German is normally 1,8m (70,9 in) wide, 10 in wider than a queen, 6 in narrower than most kings.

Beware of what is called a "French bed", which is essentially the same as a US full sized bed, narrower than a queen.

Twin beds can be pulled apart but European rooms are not that big.

Bring earplugs. These are the only ones I can tolerate. Very comfortable and can last forever.
