I'm excited to be attending the Bayreuth Festival in August but am disappointed with hotel options I'm finding--at least in comparison to other places in Germany and Austria where I've stayed. Any recommendations, especially for a 3 or 4 star hotel in the old town area? Also, for those who've been to the festival, since the Festspielhaus is not walkable from the old town, how do operagoers usually get there? Are taxis easily available? Buses?? Would appreciate any and all recommendations for visiting Bayreuth and especially for the festival.

I was there in 2015. I stayed at the Hotel Rheingold in Bayreuth, The hotel organized a daily charter bus to/from the Green Hill (Festspielhaus) for a reasonable charge. Hotel had a/c, although not that strong, it was good enough. They also set up an ironing room in one of the meeting rooms so people could iron their tuxes and dresses. All in all, an outstanding experience.
