Bavaria with young kids in June

Hi. We are planning a trip to Germany in June. Bavaria was recommended as a good choice with a 4 and 6 year old. Flying in and out of Munich. My wife and I have been to Munich so we are thinking maybe don’t spend much time there. We prefer smaller cities and towns. We have 10 days not including flight days. Where would you go and what would you do with younger kids?

How about Legoland Deutschland, in Günzburg, Bavaria?

Beyond that, I am not aware of any big advantage that Bavaria has over the other states in Germany when it comes to children that age, specifically. Kids 4-6 tend to like zoos, beaches and splash pools, playgrounds. Fortunately, most cities and towns around the country, and in Bavaria as well, tend to have these options. So my suggestion is to build an itinerary around your OWN interests and seek out those kid-friendly amenities in the places you have selected.

You may wish to do a farm stay... or to lodge yourselves at 1 or 2 youth hostels, which tend to be very family-oriented these days and sometimes offer a place for kids to interact with other kids; family-rooms, activity/game rooms, ping-pong tables, etc. are quite commonplace. And some hostels can be found in some very interesting buildings... like the Diez Castle hostel where we spent a couple of nights as a family (not in Bavaria.)

Be careful regarding ticks when doing outdoor things with your kids. Let them wear long clothing and check their skin after outdoor activities or at the end of each day.

I can't say this often enough, if you're in Munich with kids, take them to Therme Erding. And the Deutsches Museum.
